F. ELAINE PEGG Pegg, F. Elaine (Arnett) went quietly to be with the Lord on Jan. 25, 2017, at 5:30 AM at California Park Rehabilitation Hospital from congestive heart failure. Elaine was born on Jul 9, 1927, to Homer and Florence (York) Arnett in Kalamazoo, MI. The family later moved to Ann Arbor where Homer completed law school. The family returned to Kalamazoo and Elaine graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. Elaine married Robert E. Pegg of Kalamazoo in 1946. Robert was in the Navy and the family moved to California. The family lived in San Diego, Alameda, Stockton, Stanton and then Honolulu. Upon separation from the Navy, the family returned to Stockton then to Simi Valley. Elaine divorced in 1980. She was a partner in Drapery Depot, an interior design firm until she retired in 1993 and moved to her lakeside condo at Windmill Falls in Chico. Elaine was a member of DAR, the free Clinic, the Republican Party and ARC. Elaine's real passion revolved around her commitment to ARC. She first became involved with The ARC, which is a national program, with the Knights of Columbus in Simi Valley. She helped with a dinner dance and then became a board member, a position she held for 25 years. She was president of the board twice. When she moved to Chico in 1993, she immediately became involved with ARC of Butte County. She served for 20 years, including multiple terms as president of the board. In 2005, at age 78, she was honored by the Arc of Butte County with the Frank T. Lanterman Award, for her years of dedication to improving the lives of people with severe developmental disabilities and in 2012 the newly named Elaine Pegg Adult Day Care Center opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony naming the center in her honor. Elaine played the piano and was a dedicated bridge player and bowler in her younger days. She continued to read voraciously until macular degeneration took her eyesight then she switched to books on tape. Elaine is survived by two sons: David (Peggy) Pegg of Chico, Gary Pegg of Chico; one daughter Michele (Pegg) Jones: one grandson: Nathaniel Pegg and four granddaughters: Rebecca Perez Pegg of Madrid, Spain, Christine(Jones) Gallis and Kelly Jones of Lake Forest, CA, and Katy Jones of Northridge, CA. In addition, she is survived by one brother, James (Daisy) Arnett of Orange, TX, and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Elaine will be returned to Kalamazoo's Riverside Cemetery to the family plot where she will be laid to rest next to her eldest son, Michael Thomas Pegg who predeceased her in 1965. A celebration of life for Elaine is being planned for the near future. Memorials should be sent to The ARC of Butte County. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.BrusieFH.com.
