One Shot to Death in Neighbors' Rowe; Two Brothers Held. Bowdoin Rancher Slain After Quarrel With Kindall Pair
Malta, April 6--Two brothers, Edwin and Simon Kindall, are held in jail here in connection with the slaying Wednesday of Gilbert Gilbertson, a well known rancher of the Bowdoin section. Edwin Kindall is alleged to have fired the fatal shot while his brother was present at the scene of the crime.
Differences between the Kindall brothers and Gilbertson, who live on adjoining places south of Bowdoin, which frequently brought them together in court, are believed to be responsible for the killing. Authorities say the two Kindall brothers were setting fence posts when they observed a man near the fence separating the two farms, and they investigated with the result that shooting followed.
The Kindall brothers assert that the killing was done in self defense and that Gilbertson, at the time of their approach, was in the act of cutting fences. Examination of the guns that figured in the murder revealed that one possessed by the Kindalls was fired three or four times while that of Gilbertson appeared to have been shot only once.
A coroner's inquest showed that Gilbertson came to his death from a gunshot wound. Gilbertson was shot between the eyes.
Gilbertson is survived by a wife.
