He was born in Dane Prairie Township, rural Fergus Falls, the son of Adolph and Maria (Grewe) Hauge. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended rural School District No. 19 and District No. 7 , both in Dane Prairie Township.
On July 15, 1950, he married Betty Severson in Fergus Falls. From 1950 to 1952 he served in the U.S. Army with the 7th Division Combat Engineers in Korea during the Korean War. Following his military service he was employed with Harvey Morrill which became Stan Morrill, Inc., as a heavy equipment operator in road construction. He worked for them for 44 years until retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Fergus Falls VFW. He enjoyed being an amateur radio operator and was very musically inclined. He played and sang with Nick and the Old Timers and was able to play many instruments by ear. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Karin Ernst; son, Kevin (Judy) Hauge; grandchildren: Brandon, Brittany and Brady Hauge and Blaine and Tyler Ernst; and sister, Marilyn (Dale) Lyden. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: Kermit, Don, Mike, and George Hauge.
