Country Musician.

George Clayburn was born in Atoka, Oklahoma on September 26, 1926. He started playing fiddle when he was twelve years old when he found his dad's fiddle packed away in a trunk.

George played his first paying job at the American Legion in Sulphur, Oklahoma. Like so many, George's fiddle playing was interrupted by World War Two. After spending some time in the Philippine Islands with the US Army, George went to Oklahoma City to attend barber school and played with the Tommy Bowman band.

His next stop was to work with the Lee Bell band in Roswell, New Mexico at Scottie's Night Club. George then spent some time in Ray Reed's band at the Yucca Night Club.

While in Roswell he met fourteen year old Tagg Lambert. They became friends and George introduced Tagg to the music of Bob Wills. George had a band playing in Clovis and Ruidoso, New Mexico. Tagg was playing a Chet Atkins style music at this time and asked for a job in George's band. George gave Tagg a record of "September in the Rain" by Joe Venuti and George Barns and told him if he could learn that song he would hire him. Tagg returned the next morning and played the song note for note from the record. Tagg's mother later told George that Tagg stayed up all night learning the song.

George joined Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys in 1959 and left in 1964. You can hear George on fiddle on several of the Bob Wills Liberty records and singing "Snap Your Fingers." George's next stop was Las Vegas, Nevada where he barbered at Nellis Air Force Base for several years. George continues to play fiddle and sing with various bands in Las Vegas.
