Died at Deaconess Hospital in Great Falls. Funeral services were Friday, July 23, 1982 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Choteau with REv. David Ophus officiating.

Grew up and attended school in Virginia and worked for the railroad in Bluefield, Va. In 1910 he moved to Nebraska and was a ranch worker. Later that year he moved to Canada where he also worked on ranches. In 1911 he homesteaded north of Chester. Married Charlotte Greenley Aug. 7, 1916, in Havre, MT. They moved to Eden in 1922 where they ranched. In 1927 they moved to Ulm and ranched. They returned to Virginia in 1929, and in 1931 moved to Grass Range where they operated a ranch, and in 1937 they moved to Vaughn. In 1943 they came to Choteau, and in 1952 they moved to Kalispell where they built and operated The White Birch Motel. In 1962 they returned to Choteau and operated the Lincoln Apartments. In 1972 they moved to the Skyline Lodge Retirement Home in Choteau. Life long member of the Lutheran Church; charter member of the Grass Range Lutheran Church; charter member of the Montana Cowboys Association; and participated in the last open range roundup in Montana.

Survivors include two sons, Robert of Choteau, and Richard of Dayton, Ohio; daughter, Mrs. Loretta Miller of Spokane, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and brother, Frank of Portsmouth, Va. Preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; daughter, Verda June; brother, George; and two sisters, Virginia Shumaker and Pearl Hanger.--Information from obituary in The Choteau Acantha, July 29, 1982, Pg. 1
