Samuel Barr, a veteran of the civil war and one of the best known gentlemen of this place, was stricken with paralysis at his home on Sixth street Sunday afternoon since that time his condition has been serious. Mr. Barr is one of the oldest residents of Renovo having lived here for a great many years. He is aged 72 years and his age will make his recovery hard, but his friends are hoping that he may improve and live many more years.

Samuel C. Barr, one of Renovo's oldest and most highly respected citizens, died Tuesday morning at 3 o'clock at his residence on Sixth street, aged 72 years, 9 months and 7 days, of paralysis. Mr. Barr was stricken about a week before his death, but previous to this had been in ill health for a number of years. Twelve years ago he suffered from a carbuncle which grew upon his back and for the time threatened his life. He never quite recovered from the effects of his illness. About four years ago he began failing rapidly and he was troubled with an affection of the eyes, which proved so serious that the best specialists failed to effect a cure. The deceased was born in Gaysport, Oct. 16, 1835 and was 50 years ago an employe of the P.R.R. Co. at their shops in Altoona. He left the company the beginning of the Civil war to become a soldier and served his country well. He was married in 1865 at Huntingdon to Miss Carrie McMurtrie who survives him, with a nephew Howard Snyder who was brought up by Mr. and Mrs. Barr. Deceased was the last of eight brothers who served in the war. The funeral was held on Friday afternoon from the Presbyterian church, the Rev. J. D. Cook officiating. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery.
