The Jury impaneled by Coroner Albert A. Falk to determine the cause of the death of Mrs. Jonathan Baker, whose body was found in a potato patch at Jeddo last night, returned a verdict that the woman died from natural causes.

Owing to the fact that the aged couple had separated and a divorce suit was pending in the circuit court in which the husband was the complainant, rumors of foul play gained circulation.

According to the story told to the jury by the witness, Mr. and Mrs. Baker had a disagreement about eight weeks ago and Mr. Baker alleged that his wife struck him, injuring his ribs.

Following this assault, the husband alleges he went to live with his nephew and began proceedings for a divorce.

On Thursday the body of Mrs. Baker was found in a potato patch at Jeddo and rumors of foul play were circulated. It developed that the husband and nephew had gone to the potato patch the day before to dig a quantity or spuds and they were ordered away by Mrs. Baker. The husband stated he told his wife that they would give her a share of the potatoes and put them in the cellar for her.

Finally they left and the last seen of Mrs. Baker alive was when she was in the garden digging potatoes. It is believed that it was her intention to harvest the entire crop and that the exertion brought an attack of heart failure and she collapsed. A hoe was in her hand when the body was found and there was not a mark on her body. Death from heart failure was given as the jury's verdict.

No death record was found for her, which I found strange. I am placing her in the Croswell cemetery because the Croswell Gleaners helped with the funeral. Also, her parents are buried here.
