James Monroe Hammons, 96, of Bois D'Arc, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, March 14, 2017.
James the son of Leroy T. and Mildred (Stockard) Hammons, was born in Springfield, MO, on September, 20, 1920. James married Wilma Maxine on February 20, 1943, they enjoyed 56 years together before Wilma's passing in 2000.
James faithfully served his country, in the Army, during WWII. He was part of the 25th and 33rd Infantry Division and was part of the Pacific Theater. James was stationed in the Philippines when Japan surrendered and was part of the occupational forces that secured the islands. Recently, James had the privilege to take part in the Honor Flight of the Ozarks.
James graduated from Bois D'Arc in 1939, which was the first class to graduate from Bois D'Arc. He enjoyed being outdoors. James enjoyed gardening, canning, and cutting wood.
James was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sons, James Leroy Hammons, Terry Hammons; and a granddaughter, Sherry Stokes.

James is survived by his children, Marilyn Smith, Evelyn Elliott and husband Mike, Tony Hammons; 8 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Burial in White Chapel Cemetery.
