Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2005 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in St. Stephen for Donald E. Knettel, age 78, of St. Stephen, who died Tuesday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Rev. Robert Harren will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Donald was born in St. Cloud to Oliver & Mary (Justin) Knettel. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He married Donna Mae Vreeland on June 6, 1950 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice. Donald was a farmer and also worked at DeZurik Corp. as a welder for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, St. Stephen American Legion Post 221, Stearns County Pioneer Club, and AA for 30 years. Donald enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors, cutting wood, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was really looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchild in October.
Survivors include his wife, Donna of St. Stephen; daughters and sons, and their families; sister, Bernadette (Joe) Trobec of St. Stephen; brother-in-law, Thom (LouAnn) Schuller of St. Joseph.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; sons, John and Alan; brothers, LaVern and Adrian; and sister, Eileen.
