Aaron James Hartzell, 24, of Poway, California passed away in Provo, Utah on March 6, 2017 as a result of bipolar disorder.
Aaron was born May 13, 1992 in Lancaster, California. He was the second of five children of John and Melanie Hartzell. A beautiful and inquisitive child, he grew to love and understand nature. He enjoyed hiking, mountain biking, ultimate frisbee, photography, longboarding and other outdoor activities.
Aaron was a peacemaker and a kind, gentle soul. He was always happy to help, serve and lend a hand until the job was more than finished. His sense of humor and wit was a source of joy to all of us. Aaron encouraged us to go out and experience the world and was a patient, enthusiastic teacher. He was passionate about literature, classical music and delicious, healthy food.
Aaron grew to love learning and had a thirst for knowledge. Aaron was homeschooled and attended Millennial Scholar Academy. During high school he attended and graduated from LDS seminary. He was a Boy Scout and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He later attended Brigham Young University. He served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Canada Toronto Mission speaking Korean.
Aaron was a righteous and faithful warrior who battled mental illness and reached out in love to others, even when he was in great pain.
Aaron is survived by his parents and siblings, John and Melanie Hartzell, Ryan and Molly Hartzell, Marianne Hartzell, Elder Evan Hartzell and Lavender Hartzell. He is also survived by his nieces and nephew, Brianne, Leighton, Carrington and Ivory Hartzell. He is also survived by his grandparents, Robert and Carolyn Forston.
