Son of William Thomas and Mary Ella Hays Baxter

Born in Como, Panola County Mississippi, in 1900 he and his family came to Lonoke County by covered wagon. After the death of his Mother Mary Ella in about 1905 the family moved to Prairie County where he met and on the 20th. day of October 1917 married the love of his life Merna Elizabeth Oliver. He and Miss Mernie as he called her lived in the Old Baxter Home Place until the time of their passing. It was also in the Old Home Place they had and raised the follwoing children:

James William "J.W"., Verser Clayton, Ella Jean Baxter Ferguson, Virginia Louise (Louise) Baxter Ricks, James Louis (my father), Glen and Maxine Baxter Tipton.

You will find all but 1 of the children buried here at Walter's Chapel. Ella Jean Baxter Ferguson is buried in the Ferguson Family Cemetery in Prairie County.

Brother of:

Mary Bertha "Bird" Baxter Holden, Grover Cleveland, Clara Belle Baxter Holden Gunnell Hall, Lillian Mae Baxter Driver and Verser Clayton.
