Mr. Lickey, who was a native of Loudoun County grew up in Berryville where he still spent much time at his home on South Church Street even after working in Washington where he had a home. He joined the District Unemployment Compensation Board in 1937 as a claims deputy and was named assistant director in 1953 and executive director in 1956.
He was a graduate of the University of Virginia. Mr. Lickey was past president of the International Association of Personnel and Employment Security and a member of the executive committee of the Employment Security Board.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Liekey; a sister, Dorothy A. Johnson of Alexandria; two brothers, Shirley B. Lickey of Richmond and Clyde H. Lickey of Petaluma, Calif.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 o’clock Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Washington, and interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family requested that expressions of sympathy be in form of contributions to the memorial funds of Grace Episcopal Church, Berryville, St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Washington, or to the American Cancer Fund.
