Emma Mathilda Carlson, a native of California, passed away June 9, 2004, in Fortuna, at the age of 82.
Emma was born in Fortuna on March 27, 1922, to Sarah and Ernest Rohl, Sr.
She attended various grammar schools throughout Humboldt County, and Arcata High School. In 1940, she married Arnold Dahlberg, and in 1962, she married Andrew E. Carlson.
Emma was employed at Brizards of Arcata, and Montgomery Wards in Eureka for 22 years. For several years, she was a docent at the Eureka Maritime Museum, and a volunteer at the Eureka Senior Resource Center. She was also a 50-year member of the Arcata Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Emma is survived by her husband, Andrew E. Carlson of Eureka; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mike Elder of Fortuna; grandchild, Deborah Piazza of Eureka; great-grandchildren, Derek Piazza of Beaverton, Ore., and Alyssa Piazza of Eureka; brother, Arlen and Arlene Rohl of Eutawville, S.C.; nephews, Allen Pierce, Jr., of Eureka, Jerry Carlson of Eureka, Chuck and Pam Swope of Deming, Wash., Douglas Rohl of Yakima, Wash., Ernie and Janis Rohl III of Fortuna, Jeff and Kim Rohl of Holly Hill, S.C., Dr. Donald J.
