The Oklahoman, Saturday, April 10, 1943:
Michael O'Brien, 79, early day sheriff of Oklahoma County and pioneer Oklahoma resident, died Friday at his home, 2307 NW 18th St.

A native of Petersburg, Canada, O'Brien came to the United States in 1872 and settled at Falls City, NE. He came to Oklahoma in the run of 1889. The "run" carried him to Edmond. From that point, he walked 14 miles north and west, and filed his homestead which he still owned at the time of his death. In 1900 he moved to Oklahoma City and was elected county sheriff, serving one term in office.

Rosary services will be conducted Sunday at 7:30 pm in the Smith & Kernke Funeral Chapel with requiem mass at 9 am Monday in St Francis Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs Dale Smith; and two sons, Leo and W. E. O'Brien, all of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Mrs M. D. Casey, OKC; and Mrs M. J. Casey, Walthill, NE; four brothers, Pat, Will and James, all of Edmond; and Charles O'Brien, McAlester; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
