Doris S. (Sterner) Spangler, 95, a resident of Menno Haven Nursing Home and formerly of 920 Eastland Road, Waynesboro, PA, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, in the nursing home. Born December 2, 1921 in Pottsville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph A. and M. Catherine (Meadows) Sterner.
Mrs. Spangler was a graduate of Tamaqua High School, Tamaqua, PA with the Class of 1939. She later received a degree in social work from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA in 1943. She and her husband, the later Mr. William O. Spangler, were married April 29, 1944. Mr. Spangler passed away June 6, 2008. While living in Tamaqua, Mrs. Spangler worked as a school teacher. She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro, Waynesboro College Club, Embroiders Guild of America, Waynesboro YMCA, Gamma Phi Sigma Sobriety, CWENS Honors Society and Retired Teachers Association.Mrs. Spangler was the recipient of the Girl Scouts Eaglet Award for her 25 years of service as an adult volunteer.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 13, 2017, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Dennis Beaver officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service, Monday morning, in the funeral home.
