Adolph attended the German Lutheran Parochial School, in Varna, where he acquired a vast knowledge of bible stories. Later, he was the director of the Harmony Country School.
Adolph later became a tenant farmer on an 80 acre farm in Belle Plain Township, Section 3, near Varna, Illinois. The farm was owned by Mrs T. Black. Later they moved to the Schoof family farm in Roberts Township. They moved to Magnolia (Putnam County) in 1936 and returned to Whitefield Township (Marshall County) in 1942. So the older children were educated in Varna Schools, while Lola graduated from Magnolia High School and Clarabel graduated from Henry High School.
Adolph retired from farming in 1945 and moved to Henry, IL., for their remaining years.
