Wayne O. Truex, EdD, 85, of Columbus, died at noon Friday, March 3, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Dr. Truex was born in North Webster, Indiana, May 13, 1931, the son of Francis W. and Arvilla Leeper Truex. He married Arlene L. Gillett, and she survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a

professor at lllinois State University in Normal, Illinois, where he taught anatomy and physiology and also served as the gymnastics coach. He loved sailing and actively supported the Grandview Lake Community. He was also a past member and a Paul Harris Fellow in the Normal, Illinois, Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene, of Columbus; son, Michael (Shannon) Truex of Richland, Washington; daughter, Julie (Brett) Haines of Seeley Lake, Montana; grandchildren, Sean and Mayra Truex, Tanner Beall, Gavin and Tyler Haines; brothers, Royce (Sandy) Truex of Kentfield, California, Robert W. (Ann) Truex of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Lowell (Dorothy) Truex of Pensacola, lorida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Mildred Seal and Helen Truex; and his brothers, Stanley Eugene Truex and Francis W. Truex Jr. who was killed in WWII.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
