Mr. Edward David "Ed" Schmidlap, age 65, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on June 2, 1951 in Madison, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Glen Edward and Fredalynne Xaundra "Fredi" Daubenbis Schmidlap. He was raised in Madison and was a 1969 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. On October 10, 1970 Ed was united in marriage to Janice L. Shutters in Madison. This happy union of ten years was blessed with a daughter Jennifer Lynn. Ed was inducted into the United States Navy and served for 12 years as a submarine radioman. He retired in 1992 from the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. While in the Navy he received his Bachelors from Yale University. He moved back to Madison in 1992 and began a career with Kentucky Utilities working at the Ghent Plant as a Unit Operator Assistant. Eddie as he was affectionately referred to be his family enjoyed hard work, spelunking, hiking, the outdoors, tinkering with electronics, and was a ham radio operator. He held membership in the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Madison. Edward died on Monday, March 6, 2017, was found dead at 8:10 a.m. at his home in Madison, Indiana.

A LOVING FAMILY
Edward will be missed by his loving daughter, Jennifer Lynn Schmidlap Cockerham and her husband, Roger of Salem, Indiana; his grandchildren, Heather Schmidlap Evans (C.J.), Logan Cockerham and Joshua Alexander Cockerham; his loving sisters, Anne Marie Schmidlap Gibson and her husband, Timothy of Madison, Indiana, Ruth Elizabeth Schmidlap Willis and her husband, Geoff of Madison, Indiana; his loving brothers, John Frederick Schmidlap and his wife, Vickie of Jacksonville, Florida, Roger Paul Schmidlap of Madison, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Glen Edward Schmidlap, died March 28, 1990, and his mother, Fredalynne Xaundra "Fredi" Daubenbis Schmidlap, died April 20, 2005.

FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 10, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor Jeffrey Pflug at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana.

VISITATION
Friends may call Thursday from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 12:00 Noon until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.

FULL MILITARY HONORS
A final salute will be conducted on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre with full military honors to follow at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.
