Born the son of David Allen and Sylvia Sprauge. He married Sarah Goodspeed in 1820 and had 10 children together. She died in 1872 leaving him alone until his death. Their children are listed as: Lorenzo D. b 1823; Amos C. b. 1833; Nathan S. b. 1833; Sylvia b. 1838 [all born in Rutland, VT and followed after a move to Westport, Essex, NY the rest: Jacob, b. 1840; Silas G. b. 1841; Hiram b. 1842; David b. 1844; Ira b. 1846; Simpson b. 1847.
