Weldon Chester Dodge was born July 19, 1912, in Commerce, Hunt County, Texas, the first of seven children born to Weldon Chester and Mildred Sue (Dally) Dodge.

Weldon lived with his parents and younger sister Edna Thelma in Commerce until the family's relocation to Yoakum, Lavaca County, where siblings, Willard Earl, Helen Mildred, Robert Henry, and Howard Alvin were welcomed to the family. In 1925, the family moved to Dunsmuir, Siskiyou County, California, where sister Doris Ruth was born. In 1927, the children and their mother returned to reside in Texas.

On April 2, 1929, Weldon became a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge Ennis 227, Ennis, Ellis County, Texas, where he earned Third Degree prior to his death in 1931, at age 18.

In 1923, Weldon inhaled a rivet into his right lung causing a lung abscess. During the next seven years, Weldon suffered from the condition. One unsuccessful attempt to remove the rivet eventually resulted in the collapse of the lung. The rivet was finally removed on June 2, 1931, but the condition proved gangrenous, and he died on July 7, 1931. He had been treated at Providence Sanitarium in Waco, McLennan County, Texas, from May 1, 1931, until his death.

His funeral was handled by F M Compton & Son with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery (now part of First Street Cemetery) in Waco, on July 8, 1931, though the plot is no longer marked.
