CHEEK, ROLAND FRANKLIN , 70, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Baptist Hospital Northeast, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a member of Southeast Christian Church and served two years in the US Army Reserves and four years in the US Air Force. Roland held a real estate broker's license for 30 years and retired in 1998 after 38 years of service to Louisville Gas and Electric Company. He helped with the construction of the Southminster Baptist Church and had the honor of the church naming the Fellowship Building as the R. F. Cheek Fellowship Hall in August 2004. He traveled on several mission trips and also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Carter Cheek; and a brother, Alfred B. Cheek, both of Frankfort, KY. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Davenport Cheek; a daughter, Teresa Cheek Schifferdecker (George) and three granddaughters, Kaycelyn Schifferdecker, Macaulay Schifferdecker and Tristin Schifferdecker; a sister, Ann Disney (Jim); and a brother, Bill Cheek (Mary), both of Frankfort. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Pearson-Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Rd. in Middletown, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Frankfort. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday.
