Excerpt from: "Old Landmarks in the Town of Callicoon", by Charles S. Hick, Town Historian - Sullivan County Record, Sept., 23, 1943:
"Alois Thuman died in 1867, as indicated on his tombstone in the cemetery back of the Catholic church in Jeffersonville; but he had relinquished his management of his hotel to a son Fred before that. He had several children. The last one, Mrs. Kate Wolf, died at Roscoe within the past year. I learn from William Breiner that
one son went to California to seek his fortune in the gold fields and lost his life by falling down a mining shaft. The family, after hearing of his death, had a funeral mass said for him in the Catholic church at Jeffersonville."
