He was born in Bulloch County, GA, the son of James DIXON. He moved with his parents to Ware Co. (now Pierce) in 1854. He served in the Confederate Army for three years and was captured in the battle at Marietta in July of 1864. He was placed in a federal prison, then exchanged for a yankee prisoner on February 26, 1865, at which time he returned home. He later served as Sheriff of Pierce County for three years.

He married Clara Isabelle Lewis 04 MAR 1869 in Wayne Co., GA.
