Ishpeming – Alfred P. Coron, "Chic the Barber", age 93, longtime Ishpeming area resident passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility while in the loving care of his family.

Alfred was born in Ishpeming on February 16, 1924 to the late Ovid and Rose (Leboeuf) Coron. He attended Ishpeming High school before going off to work for the local Ice Cream shop, setting pins at the Ishpeming bowling alley, delivering groceries, working as a Porter at the Mather Inn, and working on the South Shore Railroad before joining the United States Navy in March of 1943. While in the Navy Chic toured the South Pacific and was part of the first waves of ships to go to Okinawa. Following his service in the Navy he returned home to attend Barber College. After graduating Barber College Chic spent a short period in Toledo, and Green Bay before returning back to Ishpeming to be a full time Barber. Chic married his late wife Dorothy on October 6, 1956 in Ishpeming. Chic enjoyed running his own Barber shop, he spent 49 years at the same chair and logged well over 50 years of time as a Barber.

Chic was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic church, a life member of the Knights of Columbus, a life member of the Ishpeming VFW, a former member of the Search and Rescue team receiving the outstanding achievement award in 1981. He loved his camp, and his old tractor that he vowed to never get rid of, he was a skilled leather crafter and woodworker, building and restoring furniture, he did upholstery, enjoyed gardening, and acquired a vast rock collection through patrons of his Barber shop over the years. He chain sawed and hand split his own wood until he was 88 years old, and continued cutting his own wood until he was 91.

Chic is survived by his son Bruce (Kathy) Coron of Ishpeming, Grandson Mathew (Matena) Coron and their child Liam of Negaunee, Granddaughter Stephanie (Jeremy) Bovan and their children Logan and Lincoln Bovan of Kathleen, GA, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Ovid Coron, and Rose Leboeuf, his wife Dorothy Coron, an infant daughter Catherine, an infant son Peter, a sister Bernice White, along with a few nephews.
