"Thomas Wellborn was born Nov. 4, 1864, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wellborn. Thomas' father was a colonel in the Civil War. Natives of Kentucky they came to Texas when the war ended landing in Indianola. Later they moved to Gonzales. After farming there for several years, they moved to Kerr county and first settled on Verde Creek. He lived on the creek where he farmed and ranched.

Thomas was one of four children who were born to this family. Neal was born April 28, 1866, Harry September 20, 1867 and Virginia April 5, 1869.

These children lost their parents at a rather early age so Thomas went to live with the Coldwells their near kinsmen. The Coldwells gave this young man all the advantages that they could. They encouraged him to work and learn the ranching industry.

He married Miss Lena Limburger Feb 1, 1889. He purchased the home that Mr. and Mrs. Naylor own today. He farmed this farm and buying other tracts of land he finally added the Babb place which included nearly 1500 acres of fine land.

He and his good wife worked very hard and raised good livestock. It took hard working people to accumlulate very much in this part of country years ago because they had to do so much of the real labor themselves.

Mr. and Mrs. Wellborn had four children. Mertie who passed away at the age of 7 years, Ernest, Jesse and Henry. These three are living examples of industry and thrift.

They have engaged in the farming business all of their lives so are well acquainted with all of its phases. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wellborn live on Verde Creek, not too far from where their grandfather settled when he came to Kerr county. These children can always look back to the fact that they had good industrious parents and grandparents who were not afraid of the Texas wilds, and who proved to their neighbors that they were interested in everything that was good.

The grandfather passed away March 6, 1873 and Mrs. Wellborn April 18, 1942. They are buried in the Center Point Cemetery."
