A memorial service for Charles Raymond Erickson, 83, of Canton, will be held 1 pm Friday at Lakeside Baptist Church with Bro. Carlton Young officiating, under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home.

Mr. Erickson passed away February 25, 2017 in Tyler. He was born November 29, 1933, in Phoenix, Arizona, to William H. and Florence Therese Wilson Erickson. Mr. Erickson, known as "Chief" by many of his friends, lived in Phoenix and South Dakota before moving to Escondido, California. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. As a devoted husband and father, he was a hard worker and provided for his family. Because he never met a stranger, he was a wonderful usher at the Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido, California for many years. When they moved to Canton, Mr. Erickson became a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. He was an avid Padre and Chargers fan.

Mr. Erickson is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: William "Bill" and Albert Erickson; and a daughter-in-law, Rachel Erickson.

Chief is survived by his wife, Virginia E. Erickson, of Canton; 2 sons: Daniel Raymond Erickson of Maryland and Andy Erickson of Athens; 2 daughters: Marylou Diane Roberts of Athens and Rebecca McManaway of Grand Saline; 10 grandchildren: Karin Wright, Kimberlie Nadalski, Brigitta Walpole, Denise Erickson, Mattias Erickson, Wyatt Erickson, Morgan Erickson, Josie Erickson, Josie Erickson, Cara Ericsson, and David McManaway; 9 great-grandchildren: Myia, Landon, Nathan, Anika, Isabella, Carter, Larson, Jeremiah and Micah; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Erickson.
