Death of a Popular and Useful Citizen.
Fort Valley, July 20. - Dr. W. B. Mathews of this place, died this morning at 5 o'clock in Atlanta. Dr. Mathews was one of our most skillful physicians and surgeons. He was a most estimable citizen, a high-toned, generous, affable gentleman and an humble and sincere member of the Methodist church. The loss of one so beloved and popular, borne from the stage of action in the prime of life will be deplored by a large circle of friends, and universally by this community. It will be difficult indeed adequately to fill his place. His remains will reach here from Atlanta to-night, accompanied by his family and relatives and a deputation of members of the Masonic Lodge at this place and will be buried here to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock.
