William Hawthorn Kirkpatrick (WH) was the son of Andrew Kirkpatrick and Margaret Hawthorn. He married Katherine Obedience Jones, daughter of Benjamin Jones and Mary Townes, in South Carolina. Katherine is believed to have died prior to the family moving from South Carolina to Texas.

WH and Katherine's children were William Pinckney Kirkpatrick, James Richard Kirkpatrick, Mary Townes Kirkpatrick, Addison Young Kirkpatrick, Antoinette Oneal Kirkpatrick and Allene Obedience Kirkpatrick.
