The George Kendrick Edmonds family moved from Indiana to Missouri ca. 1867 – then on to Arkansas by 1869. The first seven children (including Elbert) were all born in Indiana.

In the 1880 census of Jasper Township, Ozark County, MO, Elbert is shown residing with his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret (Edmonds) and Morris Herd. Apparently, he soon moved to Texas -- as he married Rowena Leveridge Baugh (a Missouri native) on 6 December 1883 in Denton County, TX. On the 1900 census, they were shown in Precinct 3 of Denton County, TX with four children: Edgar L. (age 15), John P. (age 12), Harvey B. age 11), and Hattie M (age 9). On the 1910 census, they were living in the same location. Elbert is shown as 47 years old, and Lorena is listed as 49. Only one son was shown in the household with them -- Bruce H. (age 21), who must have been the Harvey B. on the 1900 census. On the 1920 census, they are still living in the same location, and all children have left the household. Rowena's brother, Joseph M. Baugh, was shown living with them in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses.

Elbert died on 27 May 1926 of myocarditis and was laid to rest in Old Shiloh Cemetery the following day.
