Singer, Songwriter, Record Producer, Record Executive. Born Harvey Fuqua Jr. in Louisville, Kentucky, he was an early mentor of Marvin Gaye, he co-founded the influential R&B/doo-wop vocal group, The Moonglows with Bobby Lester, Alexander Graves & Prentiss Barnes in 1951. The Moonglows signed with legendary Cleveland rock n' roll DJ Alan Freed. The group's first single was the 1954 hit "Sincerely." Fuqua added Gaye and others in 1958 to a reconstituted group Fuqua named Harvey and the Moonglows. It had the 1958 hit "Ten Commandments of Love." He founded the record labels, Tri-Phi Records and Harvey Records in 1961, recording artists such as: The Spinners, Junior Walker & the All-Stars and Shorty Long. Motown Records founder Berry Gordy later hired Fuqua to develop recording talent there as a division of Motown. In 1999, The Moonglows were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. In 2000, Fuqua was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Moonglows. He is the nephew of Charlie Fuqua (The Ink Spots) & the uncle of film director-producer Antoine Fuqua.
