Bettie Jo Obenland, 85, of Sheldon passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Sheldon Health Care Center. She was born March 12, 1931 in Corydon, IN, the daughter of Norman and Edna Mae Montgomery Smith. She married John F. Obenland on June 4, 1949 in Kentland, IN and he preceded her in death on December 15, 2001.
She is survived by one son, Craig Obenland of Kentland, IN; three daughters, Linda (Mike) Mabbitt of Rochester, MN, Pamela Carlson of Kentland, IN and Carol (Dennis) Ritchie of Kentland, IN; three sisters, Judy (John) Taylor of Brook, IN, Connie (Steve) Pluimer of Westville, IN and Jackie (Leland) Shrimplin of Sheldon; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Steven Obenland; two sisters, Barbara Conrad Childress and Janet Childress; and two brothers, Donald Smith and Atwood Smith.
Mrs. Obenland was a member of the Sheldon Church of Christ. She was a Supervisor at Capital Products in Kentland, IN and enjoyed playing Bingo, crocheting, fishing and camping with her husband, John, and traveling.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Sheldon Church of Christ. Revs. Neil Larimore and Gary Milton will officiate. Burial will follow at the Sheldon Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Sheldon Church of Christ or Sheldon Health Care Center.
