Gladys Bloom "Teetsie" Van Horn On Monday December 12, 2016 at Poydras Home, where she resided for eleven years with progressive with Alzheimer's disease. Wife of the late Herbert Wood Van Horn, Junior. Daughter of the late Dr. Charles James Bloom and Gladys Reiss Bloom. Sister of the late Charles James Bloom, Junior and late Albert Reiss Bloom. Devoted and beloved Mother of Dr. Herbert Wood Van Horn, III (Ann); Marion Van Horn Eagan (Lee); Gladys Van Horn Gille (Brian); Charles James Van Horn (Kathleen); Katherine Van Horn Saer (Robbie). Grandmother of Woodie Van Horn (Betsy); Drake Van Horn; Tita Eagan; Katherine Eagan May (Blake); Margaret Eagan Patterson (Connor); Amelie Eagan Larson (David); Reiss Eagan (Caroline); Faivre Gille; Grace Gille; Lucy Gille; Katie Van Horn Davis (Carter); James Van Horn; Knox Van Horn; Hayes Saer; Matthew Saer; Lily Saer; and Thomas Saer. Great Grandmother of Wade, Henry and Liam Van Horn; Parker, Reid and Emerson May, Patrick, Liam, Oliver and Philip Patterson; Colin, Graham and Liza Larson and Charlie and Wright Davis. Teetsie was graduated from Metairie Park Country Day School in the class of 1944, and then received a Biology Degree from Newcomb College in 1948, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. Teetsie was a long time member of the New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club, where she was an avid tennis player. She was a student of the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts and a member of the Whimsies artist group. She loved traveling with her husband and later with her long list of devoted friends. As a tireless volunteer, Teetsie was a member of the Boards of Maison Hospitaliere, Kingsley House, Children's Bureau, and Long Vue Gardens. In addition to these, she was actively involved in other organizations such as the Junior League. The family would like to extend its deep appreciation to all of the caregivers and staff at Poydras Home for their years of dedication and unselfish service, beginning at the Hunter House and ending with the Rose Room. In additional the family would like to thank Notre Dame Hospice for their support and efforts, especially during the last few weeks. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday December 15, 2016 at the Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Father Edwin Gros will celebrate Mass at 11:00 AM with Visitation beginning at 9:30. Burial will be private. Donations preferred to Metairie Park Country Day School, Magnolia Community Services or Poydras Home.
