In 1871, Peter (age about 19) immigrated with his family to Todd County, Minnesota. The family settled on a farm in Long Prairie Township about 5 miles east of Long Prairie Village.
On 10 September 1878, Peter (age 27) married Theresia Hager (age 20), daughter of Mathias Hager and Maria Anna Neubauer, in Marystown, Scott County, Minnesota.
In 1880, Peter and Theresa were living in Burnhamville Township, Todd County, Minnesota. Their daughter, Mary Margaret, was born 25 July 1881 in Burnhamville Township.
By 1882 they were living on a farm in Hartford Township, Todd County, Minnesota (based on the 1895 census taken on 22 June 1895 that indicates that they had lived in Hartford Township for 13 years and 2 months). Their son, Frank George, was born 9 May 1886 in Hartford Township.
In 1898, under the direction of two local carpenters named Hager and Maschler, Peter, along with Peter Recktenwald and Peter Hermes, worked on the construction of the first German Catholic church in Browerville. According to family lore, because these three men were named Peter they decided to name the church St. Peter Catholic Church.
In 1900, Peter's brother George and George's family were then living next to Peter's family. In his mother's 1906 obituary Peter was mentioned as being "…a well-known farmer of Hartford Township." (Argus Newspaper, 5 July 1906)
By 1910, Peter's daughter, Mary, was married to Alexander Botz and had moved to Stearns County, Minnesota. Peter's son, Frank, was helping Peter run the farm. By 1914, Frank was married to Apollonia (Abbie) Wiener. After their marriage, until at least 1918, Frank and Abbie were living in Browerville Village; but Frank was farming in Hartford Township. This presumably was the family farm as his father was aging. It appears that sometime between 1918 and 1920, Frank and Abbie took over the family farm, with Peter and Theresia retiring to 4th Street in Browerville Village. Peter's wife died in 1923, and Peter (age 72) moved back to the family farm in Hartford Township to live with Frank's family. (1930 census)
On 14 March 1931, Peter (age 79) died in Hartford Township. Peter was buried next to his wife at Christ the King Catholic Cemetery in Browerville.
