Robert J. Ray was born 1839 in Illinois. He has a twin brother Samuel M. Ray. His father Robert Ray, Sr. came to Texas with the Peter's Colony about 1845. He married Mary Emaline McCommas (born in 1844 in Wright Co., Missouri) on 04 JUL 1861 in Dallas Co., Texas. They lived in Cooke County, Texas for several years and all their children were born there. They appear in the 1850 and 1860 US Census in Dallas Co., Texas. They appear the 1880 census in Cooke Co., Texas. He may have died in Cooke Co., Dallas Co. or Tarrant Co. Texas about 1889. A family story says that he and his wife are buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas. I have yet to find the records to support this. There may be no marker on either grave.
