Miss Nannie W. Jordan died Monday, October 19 at the home of her niece, Mrs. B. Frank Noble, in Montgomery, Alabama.

The funeral was held on Wednesday, the Rev. F. N. McDonald of the Presbyterian Church officiating. She was buried in the Oak Wood Cemetery in the vault with her brother, Dr. J. R. Jordan, who was a practicing physician in Montgomery, Alabama, and died some years ago. Her sister, Mrs. Mary J. Tyson, who is buried in the plot nearby, was the widow of the very distinguished Judge and Congressman, John R. Tyson, who was for some years on the Supreme Court of Alabama and its Chief Justice, and later served in Congress.

She is survived by four nieces, Mrs. B. Frank Noble and Miss Patsie Tyson of Montgomery, Alabama, Miss Mary J. Baker of Asbury Park, New Jersey, and Mrs. Kenneth Murphy of Washington, D. C., and a nephew, James J. Tyson of Mobile, Alabama.

Miss Jordan was born and raised in Lexington, Virginia, and for years was a teacher in our public schools. Her father, Dr. J. R. Jordan, was a beloved practicing physician of Lexington, and he and her mother rest in the Lexington cemetery.

Miss Jordan passed the greater part of her life in Lexington, where she still has many and close friends. She was a woman of happy, and pleasant personality and strong character, deeply religious. Her scholars were appreciative and remember her, with gratefulness. She lived to the ripe age of 86, but for some years past has been an invalid, with failing health and eyesight, but through the years, her lovely Christian spirit has never failed her and has always shown with an unfailing light.

The Gazette pays this, our last tribute, with an admiring and loving spirit. She was our oldest subscriber, in point of her personal years and her family to which it had gone from its foundation, and her very kindly feeling for it has caused her to be deep in our appreciation.

Lexington Gazette, VA, October 29, 1942

She was the author of "Smiles & Tears of Other Years" about her years growing up in Lexington, VA.
