Mildred Berneice Buchanan, precious child of God and beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William Jess Buchanan Jr.
Mildred is survived by four children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, William J. Buchanan III and his wife, Becky of Gig Harbor, WA, their daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Eric Luhn, and their daughter, Abby, also of Gig Harbor, WA, son, William J. Buchanan IV and wife, Bailey of Tacoma, WA, and their son, Liam and daughter, Hazel; Steven T. Buchanan and girlfriend, Antoinette Chávez of Albuquerque, NM, James M. Buchanan of Albuquerque, NM, Rebecca J. and Cyrous Sarkosh of Redmond, WA and their daughter, Natasha Sarkosh and son, Camron Sarkosh, also of Redmond, WA.
A devoted wife and mother, Milli as her friends knew her, was a United States Air Force veteran serving from 1949 until her discharge in 1956. Milli met, and married William J. Buchanan Jr. while on duty at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. Milli left the military to follow her husband around various stations throughout the United States and overseas and to raise their children.
Her husband, Lt. Col. William J. Buchanan Jr. retired from his military career in 1970 eventually settling in Albuquerque, NM and purchasing the last of many homes in the far NE Heights in 1972 where he and Milli lived out the rest of their lives.
William went on to become an accomplished writer which was a source of great pride for his beloved wife.
Milli and William were members of Faith Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, NM. Milli was an active church member and taught Bible study groups. Milli knew, loved, and was loved by many friends.
Born two days before Christmas in 1926, Milli was able to celebrate her 90th birthday with her son, James and many friends from her church and Bear Canyon Senior Center shortly before her death.
Services will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. Friends may visit beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM.
