Alfred is the son of William & Prudence (Cook) Manlove.
I am not certain where Alfred was born, the Biographical and Genealogical History of Fayette County, Indiana states the following.
"William and Prudence (Cook) Manlove, natives of South Carolina, who, with their two children, took up their residence in what is now Posey township (Fayette County, IN.), about 1812."
With regard to the date of 1812, I suspect Alfred was born in Guilford County, North Carolina where his sister Cynthia was born. Another possibility is he was born while migrating to Indiana.
Alfred Manlove had five siblings; Cynthia (John) Miller b.1809, Phoebe (John) Stephens b.1813, Jesse b.1815, Absalom b.1817, and William Nelson Manlove b.1819.
After his father died, Prudence re-married James McConkey. To this union were born three half-siblings, Thomas, Sophronia (Timothy) Allen, and Eli McConkey.
