Clarence L. Miller, 88, of Senior Commons at Powder Mill, who was formerly of Red Lion, died February 15, 2017 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy. He was the husband of Jane A. (Taylor) Miller with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage on October 2, 2016.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday February 19, 2017 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 161 North Main Street, Red Lion with Rev. David D. Tietje, officiating. A time of fellowship and sharing will be held following the service in the church social hall. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. The Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock, PA is assisting the family.
Mr. Miller was born March 9, 1928 in Glen Rock, a son of the late Emory F. and Bertha V. (Wehrly) Miller.
He and his wife had owned and operated the former Mellinger Shoe Store in Red Lion, where he had worked from 1978 until purchasing the business in 1982 and continued to operate it until his retirement in 1990. Prior to that he had worked as a Purchasing Agent and Hardware Buyer for over 20 years with Wolf's Supply Company in York.
Clarence was a member St. John's UCC Church and Sunday School, where he had served as an Elder, on Consistory and was a choir member for over 25 years. He also taught and served as Superintendent of the Sunday School for many years and served on the Church's Call to Care Committee.
He was a member and Past President of the Red Lion Lion's Club, was a member of and played the Trumpet with the Red Lion-Felton Band for over 68 years and was a member of the Red Lion Historical Society, the Red Lion AARP Chapter 1773 and was a life member of the Leo Fire Company, Red Lion.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Ann L. Herrold and her husband, Art of Dallastown and Beth E. Kochenour and her husband, Charles of Windsor; two grandchildren, Andrew Herrold and Amanda Herrold and Rick; three great-grandchildren, Kyle, Nick and Kaylee.
