FT. COLLINS, Colo. A. Denton and Nadien Matteson, formerly of St. Joseph, went to be with their Lord on February 12, and January 21, in Ft. Collins. They were residents of St. Joseph, for all but the last two years ,when they moved to Ft. Collins, to be with their son, his wife, two grandsons and great-granddaughter.

Nadien was born to Selma and Hjalmar Nelson on April 10, 1921. She worked for a short time for Mutual Benefit Farm Loan Company. She was a devoted wife and mother to Denton and David. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church for 93 years.

Denton was born on June 25, 1920, to Albert and Eva Matteson. At 21, he was drafted into the US Army and sent to England with the 90th Infantry Division. In June 1944, he was with General Bradleys 1st Army that landed on Utah Beach on D-Day. He was a Sergeant and worked directly for the commanding General and Chief of Staff. Later he was with the 3rd Army under General Patton.

He was awarded the Bronze Star and five battle stars for five major battles, including the Battle of the Bulge.

When he returned to civilian life in St. Joseph, he worked in the stock room of American Electric Company. He stayed with the company and rose to be President and Chairman of the board. The business was sold to Sunoco when he was made Group Vice President over four companies.

He was President of the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce (1976), Campaign Chairman of the United Way (1978-79), Bethany College Board of Directors, Board of Directors First National Bank (1980-840), Board of Directors Heartland Hospital, President of Downtown Rotary Club, President of Sertoma Club, and Salvation Army Fundraiser.

They are survived by: their son, David (Vicki); grandsons, Jason (Alyssa), and Aaron; and great-granddaughter, Payton, all of Ft. Collins.

Denton and Nadien were interred in Ft. Collins. As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
