Marlin N. Barley, 72, died Monday, September 20, 2004 at 6:20 a.m. at his residence. He was the husband of Josephine 'Josie' (Iacono) Barley. Mr. and Mrs. Barley celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on September 10th. Born May 31, 1932 in York, he was a son of the late Adam and Florence (Landis) Barley. He was the former co-owner with his wife, Josie, of The Barley Convalescent Homes. Since 1984, he and Josie co-owned/operated Autumn House East and later opened and operated Autumn House at Powder Mill. He was a 1951 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and a 1955 graduate of Rider University.

He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He had been a volunteer Ambulance Driver for Springetts Ambulance Club; served on the boards of Misericordia Convalescent Home, Margaret Moul Home, American Red Cross, and VNA of York County; and served on the Board of Central York School District. He was a charter member of York - East Rotary Club; member of the Department of Public Welfare Personal Care Homes Advisory Committee; member of the American College of Health Care Administrators; member of the Country Club of York and Ducks Unlimited. He was an avid fisherman. Besides his wife, Josie, he is survived by two sons, Steven B. Barley of York and Michael D. and his wife, Heather Barley of York; two daughters, Lisa A. and her husband, Matthew Blyth of York and Beth E. and her husband, David Tozer of Leesburg, Va.; 11 grandchildren, Megan, Bryan, and Marisa Barley, Alex, Nicholas, and Mariah Barley, Taylor, Graham, Amanda, and Anna Blyth; and Michael Adam Tozer. He is also survived by a sister, Barbara Smith of York; and a brother, Roy Barley of Chester Springs, Pa. Marlin was profoundly devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved his vocation and touched the lives of many people in York County. -
