Frances Lillian Newborg Sundberg, 87 of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Fergus Falls, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001 in Phoenix.

She was born on June 4, 1914 in Fergus Falls to George and Inga Newborg. In April 1947, she married Robert Clayton Peterson. She worked for many years in Washington state as a cosmetologist. After Mr. Peterson’s death in June of 1968, she moved back to Minnesota and resided at East Lost Lake and wintered in Apache Junction, Ariz. For the past three years, she resided at her home in Phoenix and in the summer would go to Washington state with her family. She loved to crochet and made dozens of beautiful afghans for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; sisters Haldes Knutson, Agnes Houck, and Marvel Olson; and brothers Joseph, George, Lawrence and Rueben Newborg.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Burton) Gumeson; sisters Juenette (Herb) Nelson of Ariz. and Marjorie (Sherlock) Houge of Fergus Falls; brother Virgil (Patricia) Newborg of northern Minnesota; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Burial will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Washington.
