Carl William Alstat, 52, director of the Alstat Funeral Chapel in Mound City, died at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Marion on May 23.

Born Feb. 16, 1920 in Ava, he was the son of William and Verena Sherman Alstat.

He married the former Romilda Wiesner in Chicago on May 6, 1944 and served, with the Air Force in Africa, Sicily and Italy during World War II.

A graduate of Vergennes High School and the Worsheims School of Mortuary Science in Chicago, he was a licensed embalmer and funeral director. Mr. Alstat was Pulaski County coroner for 16 years and precinct committeeman in Mound City for 12 years.

Surviving are his wife, Romilda of Mound City; a son, Edward K. and daughter, Karen Sue, both of California; parents of Ava; brothers, Delmar of Mt. Olive and Wayne of Ava; sisters, Maxine Vancloostere of Murphysboro and Carolyn Liss of Orange, NJ.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on May 23 in the Alstat Funeral Chapel in Mound City. The Rev. Jerome Hartleln of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiated and burial was in the U.S. National Cemetery in Mound City.
