Mrs. Lydia Y. Huss
Was born Nov. 16 [sic], 1816, in Washington county, Ky., and died September 4, 1895 at the home of Mr. Fred Schabel, in Shelbina, Mo. She committed herself to the Savior October, 1836, and was baptised into the fellowship of Nolyn Baptist church in Ky., and for nearly fifty years lived, suffered, and then died in the hope and promise of the immortal life beyond. She married Mr. Wm. Huss, Dec. 19, 1839. This union was blessed by two daughters, Mrs. Schable [sic] survives to weep a mother's departure. During the last three months of her life Mrs. Huss suffered intensely and was entirely helpless. The members of the family are thoughtful beyond expression for the kindly sympathy and ministrations of the neighbors. Let it be said to her memory that she was a devoted Bible reader, a firm believer in the principles of her church, a consecrated, consistent member, kind to every one, ready to help all, a pious, and an affectionate mother, a faithful wife, thus entwining herself to the hearts and memories to all who knew her. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord." When she came to the chilly waters of death, her hopes were brighter, her faith stronger, and her suffering were calmed, and her peaceful spirit glided safe into the Heaven of rest as a ship from the stormy ocean.

There are brighter skies than these I know
Lands where no shadows lie,
Fields where immortal flowers bloom,
And founts that are never dry.

There are domes where the stars are ne'er dim,
Where the moon forever gleams,
And the music breath of the radiant hills
Sweeps o'er the crystal streams.— J.R.P.
