FIFER, CO C, 4th VA INF, CSA, CIVIL WAR.

Eldridge was the son of Levi & Susannah Nunn Odell. When the Civil War broke out, he enlisted in the 4th Virginia Infantry, CSA and fought with his regiment for the duration of the war. During one of the battles he was shot in the side, but recovered from his wound. After he was mustered out, he returned to Pulaski County.

He married Mary E. Godby, the daughter of Lindsey C. & Luticia Godby, on March 5, 1867 in Pulaski County, Virginia. The couple were the parents of William Jackson, Margaret A., Cora Belle, Victoria, Warren F. and Mollie B. Odell. Their marriage ended in divorce, in 1894.

He married Mary D. (nee Clark) Nunn on December 25, 1894 in Hamilton County, Ohio. They were the parents of Edward W Odell, Robert Foraker Odell and Alexander Bevis Odell. The family settled in Butler County and lived in Venice, Coke Otto and Williamstown. Mrs. Odell passed away, in 1915.

He, next, married Addie May Yeakle on December 11, 1918 in Columbus, Ohio. She was the daughter of William Henry Yeakle & Mary Ellen Armstrong Yeakle and forty-two years his junior, in age. While in Columbus, the couple ran the Franklin Hotel. After returning to Butler County, Mr. Odell worked as a Justice of the Peace (Magistrate's Court) in St. Clair Twp., for six years. He passed away from the effects of non-epidemic cerebral meningitis, complicated by blow to the head during an accidental fall.

Note: For more details concerning the divorce, please read Mary D. Clark Odell's biography.

He used several names over his lifetime, he was born Eldridge Watson O'Dell, used Elonzo O'Dell on his first marriage certificate, used Edward W O'Dell/Odell on census records in Ohio, and his own son gave the wrong name at his death, Edward Wood Odell.
