Caroline Murdaugh Brame died peacefully at The Forest at Duke in Durham, North Carolina on February 12, 2017.

Born in Charleston, South Carolina on July 23, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Marshall Frederick Murdaugh and Gertrude Munzenmaier Murdaugh. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, James (“J.B.”) Ballard Brame and her brothers Marshall Frederick Murdaugh and Marion Edward Murdaugh.

Caroline was a graduate of Durham High School and Croft Business School. In Durham as a life-long member of the Watts Street Baptist Church, she contributed through teaching Sunday School, Circle Ministry, Church Receptions, and Youth Activities, and she was active in the Junior League, the Debutante Ball Society, and a member of Hope Valley Country Club. At Topsail Beach she served on the Board of the Emma Anderson Memorial Chapel and participated in the Sea Turtle Rescue Patrol.

She was recognized by The Durham Herald/Sun as Mother of the Year in 1967, an award wholeheartedly applauded by her children. A talented cook Caroline enjoyed entertaining family, friends (especially her bridge club), and J.B.’s business associates as well as traveling, gardening, walking and shelling on the beach.

She is survived by her sons, James Ballard Brame, Jr. (Anita Wilkinson); Robert Marshall Brame (Martha Bynum), Randal Alan Brame (Leslie Jones), all of Durham, and her daughter, Linda Brame Hundley (James Davenport Hundley) of Wilmington, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, James Davenport Hundley, Jr. (Cathrine Williams) of Wilmington, NC; Caroline Hundley Jones (David Stewart Jones) of Chapel Hill, NC, Elizabeth Brame Hundley of Wilmington, NC, Amy Brame Stanfield (Mercer Fales Stanfield) of Durham, Anna Brame Goodmon (James Fletcher Goodmon, Jr.) of Raleigh, NC, Martha Murdaugh Brame, Robert Marshall Brame, Jr. (Jennie Ledford), all of Durham, NC, Alice Brame Merritt (Robert Joel Merritt) of Raleigh, NC, Bailey Elizabeth Brame of Raleigh, NC and Randal Alan Brame II, (fiancée Tori Neese) of Charleston, SC. “Mimi” was joyous over her great grandchildren Eliza, Stewart and Katherine Jones; Linden and Sydney Hundley; Jim, Mercer, May and Wren Stanfield; Fletcher, Watson, Walker and Frances Goodmon, Marshall and Chandler Brame; and Addisyn and R.J. Merritt. Most special to Caroline in her final times were the staff at the Forest at Duke and her most dear companion, Lori Bowen. The family will be forever grateful for their loving care.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Maplewood Cemetery.
