Billy Fred Compton, 91, of Savannah, passed away at Azalealand Nursing Home, Thursday, Feb 9, 2017.

Billy was born Dec 11, 1925 in Pikeville, Kentucky to the late Bill and Clara Compton.

Billy was a graduate of Pikeville College in 1947 with his Business Degree and went to work at the Modern Appliance Company in Pikeville as a salesman and office manager.

He married his College Sweetheart, an Elementary School Teacher, Larue Webb Compton, on Aug 13, 1948.

In 1956 he took a job with the Kentucky Power Company in the Meter Department.
Billy and Larue, along with their baby daughter, moved from Pikeville to Savannah, Georgia in 1964 with Billy starting a new job at Savannah Bank and Trust Company. Billy enjoyed his banking career throughout several bank buyouts and mergers, finally retiring as Assistant Vice President with First Union.

Billy was a Member, Elder and Board Member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Pikeville, Kentucky before transferring membership to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)) in Savannah, Ga. As an Elder and Board Member in Savannah, he also oversaw the Church Kindergarten Operations and handled the Church Kindergarten Financials for several years. Billy has been an Emeritus Elder for many years. Billy also enjoyed church fellowship with the men's CMF group, participating faithfully in Sunday School and Church Activities.

On Saturdays (and more often after he retired), he enjoyed playing golf with several CMF members.

Billy was also a longtime, lifetime member of the Lions Club of Savannah. And for years, he was a member of the Lion's Bowling Team. Billy also enjoyed helping with the Lion's Broom Sales, Christmas Tree Sales and other Lion Actiities.

Billy is survived by his wife of 68 years, Laura Webb Compton, daughter Ellodee Compton Stewart, Son in law, Roger Philip Stewart, sister in law, Irene Webb Cook of Savannah, nephew Bill Mark Osborn of Rincon, Ga., niece, Karen Gose Hunsucker of Lexington, Kentucky, niece Kaye Gose Cook of MayKing, Kentucky and many great nephews and nieces, and friends. Billy also leaves behind two very special ladies, fine friends that have been so kind and caring for many years, Mary Boddie and Michelle Jones.

Billy was preceded in death by his sister, Myrtle Compton (born 1924, died 1935)
