Born December 21, 1957 in Lucas County, Ohio, Mr. Akers was a son of the late Thomas Akers and Betty Dury Akers. He worked for Grice Showcase and Display Company and was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, SC. He was an avid fan and frequent vendor of the Barnyard Flea Market in Pineville, NC. He loved working in his yard and spent many hours tending his lawn.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2002 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road in Fort Mill, SC with Father John Giuliani officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Memorial Park in Pineville, NC.
Mr. Akers is survived by his wife, Denise Chojnacki Akers, his son, Joshua Akers, his daughter, Kristen Akers, all of Charlotte, and his daughter, Melissa St. John of Milan, Ohio; his brother, James Akers of Toledo, Ohio; seven sisters, Ruth Haas of Bradner, Ohio, Marilyn Shatzer of Fostoria, Ohio, Linda Powell of Walbridge, Ohio, Sue Stolar of Rossford, Ohio, Vivian Hartford, Charlotte Smolinski and Betty Barber, all of Toledo, Ohio; and his granddaughter, Kayla St. John. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet McFarland.
