Note: No death or burial record has been found for Dorothy. See her husband's memorial for reasoning as to her inclusion here. Her birth year is a close approximation, and she was living in 1740.

Dorothy was the daughter of Samuel Colby and Elizabeth Sargent of Amesbury, Mass.. She was married in Amesbury on 12 Jan 1687/8 to William Hoyt, the son of John Hoyt and Mary Barnes of Salisbury, Mass. After her husband's death, Dorothy was admitted to the church in Methuen in 1731, having likely gone there to live with one of her sons who had moved there. She left that church in 1740, according to the Hoyt genealogy (1927), but to where she went was not told. Dorothy and William had nine children, all born in Amesbury from 1689 to 1710.
