The people of the community were saddened to hear that Mr. Valentine Redlinger had fallen into an everlasting sleep on Saturday after suffering patiently for 2 years. He was the son of Michael and Katherine Redlinger, He was born in Germany on July 27, 1848. He came to America with his parents in 1867. In November, 1871, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Bohr. To this union was born a daughter, Kathryn, now Mrs, Kuehn of Crofton, Nebraska, who with her father was left to mourn her loss. On the 19th day of August, 1873, he was united in marriage to Anna Flander, who preceded him in death on July 29,1917. To this second union were born 14 children, four of them dying in infancy and one at age 12. The children surviving are Mrs. Angeline Braunshausen of East Pleasant Plain, Mrs. Anna Fritz of Brighton, Mat J. and Valentine of Washington,
Iowa, Nicholas, John and Peter and Mrs. John Keifer of Keota, and William Redlinger of Omaha. Also left to mourn are 38 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, one brother, Peter Redlinger and a sister, Angeline Wehr, both of Harper. Burial was beside the graves of his two departed wives in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Harper, Iowa.

Valentine Redlinger, of Pleasant Grove Twp, Mahaska Co., Iowa, was born in Prussia, July 27, 1848 and emigrated to America April 9, 1867. In the year 1868, he came to Iowa and settled in Keokuk County, where he resided for 9 years, then came to his present location in Pleasant Grove Twp. and purchased 80 acres of land, which is in a good state of cultivation and well improved. On Sept. 9, 1874, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Flander. They are the parents of 8 children, Inger, Mathias, Nick, John, Katie, Peter, Valentine and Anna, the two latter are twins. Politically, Mr. Redlinger is a member of the Democratic Party, a man well versed upon political topics and one of the leading minds in the political organization in his section of the county. He is a careful, prudent manager of his business matters and is prospering fairly as a farmer. Personally he enjoys the confidence of his neighbors and friends.
