Private First Class Jimmie Louis Ellerbe was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, PFC Ellerbe served our country until April 5th, 1967 at Brooke Army Medical Center, Ft Sam Houston, Texas. He was 22 years old and was married. It was reported that Jimmie died from burns. His body was recovered. Jimmie was born in Wadesboro, Anson County, NC. June 6th 1944. PFC Ellerbe is on panel 17E, line 103 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
Jimmy was awarded the "Combat Infantry Badge" for performance of infantry duties during such time as while aggressively engaged in active ground combat, personally present and under fire, assigned as a member of an infantry unit against an armed and determined enemy. I was with Jim when he passed. Jim was a gentle giant and I think of him every day. I will never forget, Jim and I were with HHC 1/26th Infantry Regiment, attached to 1/5th Artillery Heavy Mortar Platoon, Phuoc Vinh Firebase. James Dennis Jack, 57 Godfrey lane, Huntington, NY 11743.

He was the son of Mr. John Ellerbe and Mrs Eva Rae Allen Ellerbe of Rockingham, NC.
He served with Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 5th Artillery Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, "Big Red One", USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
